Brief:
The clients approached us with a plot of land and requested a house for three families, each occupying one floor, along with parking for three cars. The challenge was that local bylaws only allowed a maximum of three floors for the structure.

Task:
We needed to design a functional house that accommodated three apartments, each with its own floor, and included parking space for three cars, while adhering to the local building regulations.

Our Response:
To address the challenge of the three-floor restriction, we elevated the front of the house to create parking space. The first apartment was placed on the remaining site, and due to space limitations, two bedrooms were positioned above the parking area, creating a mezzanine level. An internal staircase connected the bedrooms to the living room, and an external staircase provided access to all three apartments. The apartments were designed with a cohesive aesthetic, repeated across all three floors, which inspired the name "Triode." The client in the topmost apartment, influenced by his time in New York, requested an industrial-style loft aesthetic. To achieve this, we left the ceilings in exposed concrete, used a cement finish for the walls, added a brick-clad living room wall, and incorporated wood, leather, and metal elements into the furniture to balance the industrial look.

Result:
The design successfully addressed the spatial challenges while meeting the client’s aesthetic request. The elevated front for parking and the creative use of space within the building allowed for three apartments, with the top apartment reflecting the New York loft style. The cohesive aesthetic across all apartments and the industrial interior of the top apartment achieved a functional yet stylish living environment.
